Back in Atlanta
Back on the road again. Funny how it all works out. When gone, after a time, I can’t wait to get home. When home, after a time, I can’t wait to get back on the road. I remember posting in India that I was ready to get a local job and I really thought I meant it at the time but in reality, after being home for about 6 weeks I was soooo very ready to get out of the house and back on the job. Ah, the complexities of life… relationships… careers… the things we want vs. the things we need…priorities… growing up while trying not to “grow old”…
Anyway, on Sunday we went out for a last ride, not really the ride I wanted to take but a nice day just the same and yesterday I drove the 7 hours from my house in Deland... That sounds funny since it’s my house by title only. I’m not there much and there is little to nothing of “me” in the character of the house. Oh yea, sure, my stuff is there and officially I live there, but my girlfriend Stacey, has done all the decorating and made all the relevant decisions as to color, texture, design with the help of a couple of her girlfriends. Oh sure, she pretended to be interested in what I wanted, made me feel, at first, like she wanted my input so it would be “our house” but somehow, none of my suggestions, comments, desires, etc, ever played into what actually happened. Not that it isn’t very nicely done, in fact it looks really good. Stacey has done a nice job. OK, OK, enough rambling. Back to where this paragraph started before I got sidetracked …to Marietta, GA to begin a 3 month assignment playing in Corp HQ as part of the Spare Parts group for Gas and Steam Turbine’s. I showed up this morning and am just getting all my authorizations approved so I can access the necessary programs to do the work. I should be able to get rolling sometime tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the next few months here.
Actually, I was supposed to come here a couple weeks ago but was told then that the job was cancelled due to lack of funding or some such thing. Got a call late last week and, I guess things changed since, they wanted me to come up after the weekend. This sort of thing happens all the time. Jobs are on and off and then on again so I can only hope that I’ll actually get the three months they said or maybe get really lucky and get more time. Only a couple weeks left on my required contract hours so I’m looking forward to the upcoming gravy train that will follow for any job I’m on until mid June when the whole cycle starts again.
